How To Test If The Sore Spot On The Neck Is Caused Due To A Swollen Lymph Gland?

Hi! My 22year old son is away from home and went to a clinic to check on a sore spot on the front of his neck. He was told it was probably a swollen lymph gland and told to check back in a month. Is there anything else he should be doing? He had a cold a few weeks ago.

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Well, a sore spot on the neck can probably be an inflamed and swollen lymph node and if he had cold recently that is a viral infection, it can be a cause for swollen lymph node..

He can take a short course of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory painkillers like Advil and do cool compresses..

In case if there is no improvement then an x ray or ultrasound can be done to rule out the exact nature of the sore spot and further treatment can be done accordingly..

For now he can take the medications after consulting an Emergency room..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
