General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Most of the small defect will close by itself by the age of 10. In case of large shunts or in case of problems like growth retardation surgical correction may be needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family physician
