How To Treat A Chalazion?

About 3 weeks ago I developed an internal hordleum that has now become a chalazion. The doctor is recommending a procedure to remove the contents and I wish to avoid that. I have been told that either charcoal or boric acid may help. Will they do that with a poultice or by applying it directly given that it is internal and would steroid drops be more effective?
