How To Treat A Cut On Wrist Causing Excess Bleeding?

My sister has accidentally cut her wrist from a broken utensil. By the amount of bleeding, I suspect that the vein has been ruptured. She feels disoriented and drowsy. I have tried to make a tourniquet, but it just doesn t seem to be tight enough and the bleeding is unstoppable. I have dialed 911, but what should I do till the ambulance arrives?

Give a pressure bandage and the bleeding will stop temporarily or if nothing is available you can apply pressure over the bleeding spot by your thumb.Application of tourniquet will rather produce more bleeding due to back pressure.
