How To Treat A Dark Freckle On Skin Due To Exposure To Sun?

When I was a kid (7) a very very dark mole on my upper arm. It s like black, never bothered me in any way. But since it has been many years now, should I still be worried? I also got a bad sunburn while I m Florida, after my burn started to fade away, a dark freckle came up. Now, I know it s common to get freckles after being exposed to the sun, but this one is allot darker then others. Just curious, should I be serious, or is there no real worry.

Hi Dear,

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of dark freckle on skin due to exposure to sun which can occur due to multiple exposure to sunlight . Basically freckles are caused by ultraviolet radiation of the sun . UV radiation of sun tan the skin into dark circular spots .

I would suggest you to :-

- Avoid sun exposure because sun can further worsen the condition by triggering the melanocytes to produce more melanin (pigment responsible for dark spots ) .

- Apply sunscreen with SPF 50 whenever you go outside .

- Wash your face twice daily with mild soap and cold water .

- Exfoliate your skin once a week to remove dead skin.

- Apply kojic acid cream twice a day for month .

If spots doesn't go away in a month the consult dermatologist for proper evaluation .

Doctor may prescribe hydroquinone , retinoid or tertenoin cream .

Doctor may also recommend procedure like laser therapy and chemical peeling.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
