How To Treat A Dried Scab On The Leg Caused After An Injury?

My husband fell and scraped his right leg two weeks ago. He bandaged it up, and it stopped bleeding in about five days. But now it has a dark red thick scab and a white scaly, dry film around it. It is red and SMELLY. Should he pull the scab off and clean it well? What should he put on it? (Our doctor s office is closed now.)

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hi.
As per your case history of scab after trauma, my treatment advice is -
1. Don't scratch the lesion as it may worsen the condition.
2. Clean the wound with povidone iodine solution. Apply a mild antibiotic cream like fusiderm cream twice daily on it.
3. Oral NSAID like ibuprofen can be taken for pain.

If problem persists then consult a dermatologist.

Thanks.
