How To Treat A Large Cyst Caused Due To Ingrown Hair On Vagina?
Hello, I m very worried to what I think is an ingrown hair on my outer lip of my vagina. I went to my gp about 4 months ago, as it was quite big and she said it had turned into a cyst, and should go down. It did, but it has come back again suddenly over night and is the size of a hazel nut! Its very tender to touch, it hurts to walk, and has gone purple in colour. I m scared that its gone infected, and i cant see the hair. Will it need to be cut out?
Hello and welcome to HCM, The painful cyst on the vulval skin can be due to infection of the hair follicle since the vulval skin is rich in hair follicles. A course of antibiotic is required to control the infection. Painkillers can be taken for the pain. Since, there is recurrence of infection at the same site, it will be advisable to get the cystic lesion removed since it can become a seat of infection and the infection can recur.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
