How To Treat A Lump On Right Thyroid While Suffering From Nodular Thyroid Disease?

I have nodular thyroid disease. I have a 1.7mm lump in my right thyroid that has changed consistency over the last 3 year. I recently had a scan and the tech suggested I have a needle biopsy to see what it is. My GP has said he thinks we should wait another year to do that. Do you think this is safe to wait?
