How To Treat A Swollen And Painful Ankle And Knee?

I failed this morning and hurt my right ankle it is swollen from the front to the back i can stand on it now but can not put any pressure on it earlier before i went to the doctor i could not walk and they couldnt tell me if it was sprained or something serious . nthe pain from my ankle is traveling to my knee and to the back of my knee. i went to sleep with it elevated and it is not as swollen as earlier but im still in pain do i need to go on to the er this time or wait on the doctor to get back with me tomorrow with my x ray results
