How To Treat Allergic Asthma In 5 Year Old?

My son of 5 years has allergic asthma. We are planning to put him into swimming classes. But we are scared that once he joins swimming his cough might increase. So is it ok to send him to swimming at this age or should we wait until next year? Pls guide.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Dear, welcome to HCM and thanks for choosing us.

I share your concerns about your kid. In my opinion you should delay swimming training for him for at least one more year. Kids with asthma, generally improve once they cross five years, as there respiratory organs mature by this age.

Childhood asthma is treated in several ways like oral medicines, inhalers, modifications in life style, mild exercises etc. Medicines may include antihistamines, bronchodilators, steroids and antibiotics.

So I would advise you to first be sure of his health status, discuss with treating doctor and then only decide about swimming classes. I hope my reply will help you. Please write to us or me for more questions. I wish good health to your son. Kindly rate this reply. Thanks
