How To Treat An Abnormal Large Cervical Polyp Causing Irregular Periods?

after a long period of spotting and sometimes weeks of a menstral period i finally went to see a doc and had a pap done. the doc who did the pap said I had an abnormally large cervical polyp. he indicate that was probably why the long periods and spotting. he said they usually take care of themselves, such as decrease in size, but since mine was very large he didnt see that happening and he did suggest i have it removed but said it was absolutely necessary. my issue is over the last several mths my periods consist of 2 a mth. every 15 or so days i have a regular period last 6-7 days long. is the polyp causing this? will removing the polyp correct this problem? I would really LOVE to have a regular 1 period a mth again. btw i'm 40. I've been dealing with this polyp issue for about a yr now.
