How To Treat Angioedema Leading To Swelling And Discolouration Of Lips?

I have swollen purple lips and they tingle and burn very bad. Went to doctor and was told Angioedema with unknown cause. It's been like this going on 4 weeks. Went to ER and told same. Gave me prednisone. I have not eaten or taken anything different. Now they are actually leaking a clear fluid. Any ideas?

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain Angioedema can occur due to a number of causes more common is Allergic reaction. An allergic reaction can occur due to a number of causes like Animal danders, drug allergy, allergy to any food product, Pollen, chemicals in water, sun allergy etc..

As you are unknown of the cause the first thing in your case to be treated is to reduce the swelling and discomfort due to it..
You need to take medicines as without medicines the condition can only worsen and further lead to difficulty in breathing and infections..

For reduction of swelling you need to take antihistamines like Allegra or Benadryl..

Steroid therapy like Prednisolone is must and has to be taken..

In case of excessive swelling and in order to reduce the swelling you need to take injections of steroids as well as antihistamines..

Local application of steroid based ointments can be done..

Cold compresses can help..

Avoid hot and spicy foods as it can add to irritation..

Suck on ice pops..

Drink plenty of water and other liquids as it can help in maintaining hydration..

Do not press on the lips or put pressure on them..

Cover the lips with scarf while going out..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
