General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Mood stabilizers including lithium and lamotrigine are effective drugs in treatment of bipolar disorder. In case of allergy to these drugs, valproic acid, divalproex sodium and carbamazepine are the other effective mood stabilisers which can be used. Addition of antidepressants or anti-psychotics may be required during episodes of depression or mania.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
