How To Treat Bruise And Swelling On Forehead Caused Due To Injury?

Last evening my son was playing with a wooden truck, got too close, and struck me in the face. Didn t hurt terribly at the time, but this morning I woke up with a bruised and swollen temple, some pain in my cheekbone and a headache. The headache has since gone away after taking Advil, but the bruise and slight swelling is still there. Because of the area (on the temple), I m concerned. (My mother always scared me about hitting my temples!! Haha). Is this a cause for concern that I should look into, or just the repercussions of sitting too close to a crazy toddler?

Hi...
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns...

As per your complain bruising and swelling of forehead due to injury with the stick seems to be due soft tissue injury along with ruptured blood vessels leading to spillage of blood into the soft tissues causing hematoma and bruising.
Along with it there is also accumulation of inflammatory exudate, damaged fibres and capillaries and inflammatory cells..
You need not to worry as it will resolve gradually, you can apply a heparin containing ointment over the bruised area as it will cause faster disintegration of blood leading to faster fading of the bruise..
You should also do alternate warm and cool compresses for faster healing..
You can take anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
