How To Treat Bump On The Knee After A Hit?

ok, I ran into a coffee table at knee level, right side, on outside of knee, and it sent me to the floor...anyway, the result, even after several weeks is a swelling to the area over the bony section, and seems only somewhat sensitive but not very attractive...what's up with the bump?
