How To Treat Chronic Cough Inspite Of Taking Pulmicort For Asthma?
I am a female , I m 69 healthy woman. I exercise every day.I have asthma but I use an inhaler twice a day it s called Pulmicort. The last four months I ve been coughing a lot, I thought it might be allergies, but if took some kind of allergy medecine for a month, it did not help, also nose sprays that did nothing.I have tried to see my pulmonologist but the office have not been able to give me an appointment .
hi thank you for asking your concern madam and welcome to hcm. pulmicort is steriod so it is must for prevention of asthma but if you get asthamatic cough then you need reliever medication for it. you can take salbutamol inhaler 3 -4 times a day for a week and then decrease dose and stop within 3-4 days so a total 10 day dose is sufficient for most and this can can be use when necessary and continue pulmicort as it is. most of the time any infection exacerbates the asthma if you are having fever, decrease appetite, productive cough then i would suggest to take antibiotic course like doxycyclin for a week along with above medications. if you are having swelling over legs, night time symptoms waking you up then you must visit your doctor. if you feel any doubt please ask us regards dr. abhijit
