How To Treat Cold/sinus Infection?

I have recently had a cold/sinus infection for the past week. I am feeling much better, however am still having a lot of drainage and coughing. My newest complaint today is my left side of my neck has pain, like I ve pulled a mussel. It runs from the lower part of my ear lob all the way down to my collar bone. When I swallow, I feel a tad bit of discomfort, but not much...and when I look up and tilt my head to the side, (the right), I feel a slight pull if you will like it s a mussel being streched to far. Should I be worried? I don t have my tonsils and my glands do not feel swollen. I do not have a fever. Thank you

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have sinus infection/cold that is sinusitis. Yes you should take this seriously because if sinusitis left untreated infection can spread to surrounding part like middle ear or brain meningitis. Need not to panic. For now do warm saline gargles , take saline nasal drops , take steam 2-3 times a day and drink plenty of water to keep your self hydrate. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination and treatment .Doctor may order X-ray or CT scan for proper diagnosis . He/she may prescribe nasal decongestant , antibiotic course or mucolytic agent (ambroxol). If the cause of sinusitis is allergy the doctor may prescribe antihistamine drug.
