Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband has a corn on the ball of his left foot going right to the bone and causing severe pain. His Orthopaedic Surgeon has got him insoles to take the pressure off this area and also has tried pain reliefs but nothing is helping. Could you please advise if surgery would help
As you describe condition of your husband's foot that he has a corn foot .Basically corn foot is thickening of skin which is under intense pressure due to certain deformities of bone .It is good that your ortho[aedic surgeon try to reduce pressure from that area.
I would suggest you to use salicylic acid on it ,the skin over the corn is made up of many layers of dead skin which salicylic acid dissolve by its keratolytic action and prevent it occurrence .Also soak your foot in warm water for 10 mins twice a day to make skin soft which aid in easy removal of corn and relieve pain.
Do not use salicylic acid if you are diabetic .If condition persists for more then a week or go worse ,consult surgeon who can remove it surgically and may prescribe antibiotic course if its infected.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
