How To Treat Dementia In The Elderly?

My mom has dementia...she is wanting to go home. My father passed away 5 years ago. She continues to think that he is coming to take her home. She is in a nursing home.....she refuses to allow at home care in her house...says she can take care of herself...She has 30 percent lung function, COPD, emphezema & MAC. She is 82. Hospice is involved because of her diagnosis. I feel helpless for her. Please advise

Hi,

The following are used to temporarily improve dementia symptoms. Cholinesterase inhibitors.

These medications — including donepezil (Aricept), rivastigmine (Exelon) and galantamine (Razadyne) — work by boosting levels of a chemical messenger involved in memory and judgment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
