How To Treat Depression Due To Problem Noticed In Relationship?

Hello doctor..my friend s elder sister who is 46 yrs old married woman and with two children has become obsessively involved with her younger sister s husband. The two had a brief affair without the knowledge of the spouses. When all this was known , the two families who were earlier living in same house for almost 15 years are now living separately in the same town. Despite physical separation, my friend s sister (patient ) remains very depressed and is not able to focus on her own family and husband. She always tries to have some reunion/get together with her younger sister and her family though she does not interact with the younger sister s husband . She does not socialize and the only time she looks happy is when the two families are together. We don t know whether the meetings of the two families in the given circumstances should be allowed . She is on medication also though the real problem has not been told to her doctor due to fear of all this becoming public and causing shame to the two families. Both the families particularly , the children are going through hell. Please help .

The fact that someone is having an extra marital affair within 2 closely related families is devastating for every member. Your friend's elder sister is constantly looking for ways to be in contact with her younger sister's husband by planning reunions.
Meeting of the 2 families should be ignored and both of them should be kept at a physical and emotional distance. Their meetings will give them satisfaction for some time, and soon they'll start finding other ways for more gratification.

From the problem described above, it looks like she has some form of obsessive disorder as her temper is quite unstable. Since, we don't know the problem detected by the doctor, right now its safest for both the families to not be in contact with each other as it will just complicate the situation more.
