How To Treat Dizzy, lightheaded And Nausea?

About a half hour ago i put in a tampon and immediately after became extremely dizzy, lightheaded, nauseous, and heard a ringing in my ears. I also felt extremely hot. I just took the tampon out but still feel a bit dizzy now and then and rather warm. Is this a concern or normal reaction?

Hi,

According to your description there is a possibility of vasovagal syncope. Which can occur due to some stressful triggering causing drop in heart rate and blood pressure, which leads to dizziness, nausea, etc. Common triggers are stress and strain standing for long periods exposure to heat, etc. But sometimes sudden dilatation of the vagina can also lead to vasovagal syncope.

The measures that can help you are:
- Try to avoid using of tampons for some period or instead you can go for sanitary pads for a few months.
- When you are using next time, try to insert carefully and slowly, avoid forceful and sudden insertion which can provoke the recurrence of vasovagal syncope.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sree Gouri S. R., OBGYN
