How To Treat Ear Blockage Despite Taking Azithromycin For Sinus Infection?

I went to the doctor for plugged ears, sinus congestion and an eye that was red and oozing mucous. I was given an eye drop which I am currently taking four times a day (polymyxin B sulfate and trimethoprim ophthalmic solution. In addition I was told I have an ear/sinus infection and was prescribed azithromycin tablets(250mg),,,two tablets day one and then one table for the following 4 days. My eye is much improved after two days. However, my ears are still blocked up. Do I need to take a decongestant as well or will the ear blockage clear up after I have completed the course of treatment (three more days).

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you have clogged ears secondary to infection in sinuses leading to Sinusitis and there is accumulationof fluid behind the eardrum and the Eustachian tubes are blocked with mucous leading to feeling of congestion and blockage in the ears..
As you are taking antibiotics, gradually as the infection will subside the clogging will improve but to get a faster relief from symptoms you need to take symptomatic treatment that is Oral decongestant like Pseudoephadrine and nasal decongestant spray like Xylometazoline..
Do steam inhalation..
In case if there is still no improvement then the Physician might need to surgically drain the fluid for relief that will again be followed by antibiotics, decongestant and painkillers..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
