How To Treat Elevated BP And Dizziness After Taking Synthroid While Having A-fib?

The doctor says I have low thyroid. He has prescribed Synthroid -25 mcg. Now he tells me I need more, so he has told to double the dose, but after taking it for two days my blood pressure has gone up to 170 over 84, my head is aching and I feel dizzy and can t walk. I have A-Fib and have had a pace maker put in. I wonder if I should be taking the synthroid.

Hi,

Dizziness, headache, and elevated blood pressure after taking Synthroid (levothyroxine) could be indicative of an adverse reaction or an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism) caused by too much thyroid hormone. Additionally, individuals with A-fib and a pacemaker should be cautious when taking thyroid medication, as it can increase the risk of arrhythmias and heart-related complications.

Here are some suggestions to manage your symptoms and potentially reduce your risk of adverse effects:
* Contact your healthcare provider: If you are experiencing symptoms such as dizziness, headache, and elevated blood pressure after taking Synthroid.
* Adjust your medication: Depending on your symptoms and medical history, your healthcare provider may adjust your dose of Synthroid or switch you to a different medication to treat your low thyroid function.
* Monitor your blood pressure: Regular monitoring of your blood pressure can help you and your healthcare provider keep track of any changes and adjust your treatment as needed.
* Manage your A-fib: If you have A-fib, it is important to work with your healthcare provider to manage your condition and reduce your risk of complications. This may involve medications, lifestyle modifications, and other treatments.
* Follow up with your healthcare provider: Follow up with your healthcare provider to monitor your symptoms, adjust your medication, and ensure that you are receiving appropriate care.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
