How To Treat Excess Fluid In Brain?

my mother who is 75 has been diognised with built up of excess fluid in brain in the ct scan.. we will get an mri done today.. we are told that the fluid will be removed by injection in the lower part of the spinal cord.. is there any other solution or is this solution permanent
