How To Treat Excess Phlegm In Throat And Cough Post Thyroid Removal?

I had my left thyroid removed Friday morning. upo, recovery I Have lots of phlegm in my throat, sneezing, coughing and blowing my nose. This has been painful but is now cutting back. What caused this and would all my coughing and sneezing cause damage to my throat. My voice is very raspy.
