How To Treat Extensive Tear In Supraspinatus Muscle?

how likely is a 54 year old female with a high grade 80% tear of supraspinatus muscle with significant decrease in range of motion, slow response to Physical therapy and corticosteroids injection to be able to ever return to a waitressing job. In addition what would be the weight limit that can be lifted. What type of permanent restrictions are anticipated. Trying to decide return to work status.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* As per my clinical experience, the severe and extensive tear in the supraspinatus muscle indicates significant injury underlying.

* The assisted physiotherapy and medications will help to supportive level to relieve the pain and correct some range of movements , but will not cure an 80% tear.

* The definite cure is by arthroscopic repair of the muscle tear and get back 100 % range of motion and back to normal activities over a period of time.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
