How To Treat Fever While On Acetaminophen In Infants?

Hi Doctor: our baby is 6 months old and has been having a fever for the last 24 hrs. We give him some baby every 4 hrs. His temperature is still between 99.5-101.8.We took him to the Dr yesterday and he said that there is no ear infection.Any help will be appreciated.

Hi,

If he do not have any other symptoms, this is likely a viral fever. During initial 24-48 hours days, fever may be a bit high, no need to worry. Give paracetamol every 6 hours (maximum 4 time a day, not beyond that). If fever is not coming down after 1 hour of paracetamol, you can give him syrup mefenamic acid (100 mg / 5 ml) 3.5 ml, maximum 3 times a day. Also, do tepid sponging. Take him back to doctor if fever is not coming down in 3 days, he becomes lethargic or not feeding.
