How To Treat Fluid Around Heart While Suffering From AFib?

My cousin has Afib, and is now in hospital with fluid around her heart...the fluid is getting worse and she will be aspirated using some kind of laser thing. She is diabetic. She is 5 feet tall and weighs 280 lb. WHAT IS, QUICKLY, HER LIFE EXPECTANCY. I know you cannot do much, I just need to know how serious this condition is at the moment.....she is very tired.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The fluid around heart indicates pericarditis due to various reasons as auto immune bacterial or viral inflammation certain forms of cancers. The treatment of main concern is aspiration of pericardial effusion, and if unresponsive, pleurodesis via surgical intervention if patient is fit for surgery from anesthetic point of view.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
