How To Treat Gastritis In A Lactose Intolerant Child?

My 9 yr old granddaughter has been having some issues with certain dairy foods. If she drinks milk within 30 min she is doubled over in severe tummy pains and unable to pass gas. If she has cheese or something with cheese in it it will take longer to hit her since it has to be digested. A dr as suggested IBS but I don t think that is the issue. She can have things like pudding that is mixed with milk and have no ill effects. She is doing her best to avoid things that trigger the pain. What does seem to help her is baking soda & water to help her pass gas and belch. Any ideas on what the issue could be?

Hello,

The issue of lactose intolerance has to be in concern with intestine brush border enzyme levels. You must stick him to lactose free formulas till possible, along with which probiotics and pre-biotics can be of help against the baking soda which can worsen the issue by caustic effects. She also must refrain from spices, non veg, junk foods and other dairy products if consuming. Regular deep breathing exercises and YOGA will help betterment of intestines over a period of time.
