Hi, I am experiencing headaches that are occurring throughout the day every few minutes I get pain on the right side of the back of my head by the bone. It is a sharp, shooting pain that really hurts then it goes away. It isn t a migraine since light, and loud noise isn t an issue. I do seem to be forgetful however and that isn t me. I am a little alarmed by these and I have taken Naproxen but that doesn t help. I am sleeping alright but each day the same thing! It has been a few days and I haven t had anything happen. I have no other symptoms. Thank you! Tammy
I read carefully your question and understand your concern.
Your symptoms seem to be related to an occipital neuralgia. It consists of an irritation of the occipital nerve, which lies in the back of the head and upper neck.
The cause may be a traumatic lesion of this nerve, or a cervical column spondyloarthrosis, which causes an irritation of this nerve.
I would recommend you to start therapy with Indomethacine twice daily for 10days. If no relief, I would recommend to start on gabapentine or lamotrigine, which are effective in neuralgias.
I would also recommend to consult with your neurologist and perform a brain CT scan. Sometimes a lesion of the posterior part of the brain can mimic a similar clinical scenario.
Hope to have been helpful!
