How To Treat Hip Pain In An Elderly Person Suffering From Dementia?

My 82 year old mother in law is having hip pain. xrays have been negative. She has dementia and lives in a memory care center. My sister in laws are talking about taking her to a chiropractor which my husband (her son) and myself think is a horrible idea. Her primary md feels she would not handle an MRI due to her dementia.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I read carefully your query and understand your concern.

The symptoms of your mother seem to be related to arthritis.
I suggest using anti inflammatory medications such as Acetaminophen to relieve the pain.
I also recommend using cold compresses for local application.
Physical therapy can also be helpful .

Hope my answer was helpful.

If you have further queries feel free to contact me again.

Kind regards!
