How To Treat Hives On Face Leading To Itchiness And Redness?

I started breaking out in hives two years ago on my face especially around my mouth and eye. Its the diameter of a nickel and red and raised, very itchy and within 3 days it fills with pus which I clean regulary so it can dry up and clear up. It has gotten worse where the outbreaks occurred once a year to now every month. I am being tested for herpes and I will be tested for allegies too. Not sure what to look for when researching these symthoms all I know is that I get a Horrible headache before the outbreak then the hives surface and my groin area is affected too. Horrible itching and swelling occurs for at least 7 to 9 hours then it subsides but hives are present, swollen, red, slightly itchy and very noticiable. After the inflammation goes down 1 to 2 weeks time then there is scarring in those areas that were affected. Any Ideas???

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It sounds like you may be experiencing a type of hives called angioedema, which can occur on the face and other areas of the body. The pus-filled bumps you describe may be a result of bacterial infection of the hives.

It is important to consult with a dermatologist or allergist to determine the underlying cause of your hives and develop an appropriate treatment plan. In the meantime, you can try taking antihistamines to reduce itching and swelling and apply cool compresses to affected areas. Avoiding triggers such as certain foods, medications, or environmental factors can also help prevent outbreaks. If the hives become infected, a doctor may prescribe antibiotics or other medications to treat the infection.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
