How To Treat Hormonal Imbalances?
Hey. I am a 20 year olg girl with irregular (mostly 2 weeeks early),scanty periods, lasting approx 6-7days (with the bleeding stopping at evening, and night afterwards) at the present, first they used to last for approx 4-5 days, then the doctor diagnosing me with PCOS prescribed a medicine in order to check the severity of the syndrome (after which the bleeding time prolonged,as I mentioned earlier, but no other effect), so she suggested me to get the situation tested through hormonal tests, i moved to another doctor,shesuggested that it might be some sort of hormonal imbalance, so she prescribed me a medicine (Glucophage-500mg 2 times a day), alongwith some multivitamins for atleast a month. now wanna know what exactly it could be? possible treatment? extremely worried. :(. waiting anxiously for the reply !!

I can understand your concern. Usually PCOS is associated with oligoamenorrea. It means that the periods come once in 40 days or rarely, hirsutism (unwanted, male pattern growth of the hair in women) and the presence of the cysts in the ovaries. If you fulfill 2 out of these three criteria, PCOS is confirmed and oral contraceptives should be started. Otherwise you need to check the hormones (FSH,LH, estrogen and progresterone) and try to find another cause of your irregular menstrual cycle.
