How To Treat Hypersomnia In An Old Person Who Had A Stroke And Seizure?
I have a 85 yo aunt who is 10 years post stroke with some left side deficit but good cognitive function. Requires physical help with personal needs. She had a seizure in Sept with no residual effects and again a week ago. EEG normal, all labs have been normal and she is not on any new medications. She now has issues with staying awake. Falls asleep while engaged in activities. She weights about 220 lbs at 5'3. Does have issues with SOB most likely due to her weight. Would like to know what the next step in her evaluation should be? Her doctors seem to be at a loss as to what it is.
Hi, Welcome to Health care magic forum. The reason for such seizures may be the intermitent hikes in the hypertension due to some tensions in the mind, or ischemia of brain, etc. Periodical reading of the B.P and C.T scan may give some clue. I usually prescribe to my patient with such symptoms phenytoin sodium 100mg B.D for life to avoid the seizures. Here the diagnosis is not an important thing. But if diagnosed that is well and good. Give her more of green leafy vegetables, pulses, sprouts, and protein rich foods to have a good maintenance of health. Wishing for a quick and complete recovery. Thank you.
