How To Treat Ingrown Toenail?

Hi, I have been suffering from ingrown toe-nail. This problem escalated in the past week, due to pus formation around the corner of the nail. The pus has been drained and I have been prescribed antibiotics, and the problem seems to have subsided for now. Please help me with a preventive treatment for this condition. A neighbour has suggested Panderm cream. Will it help? I am a 26yr old female.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and thanks for writing.

I can understand your concern and would try to help you in the best possible way. The definitive treatment for an ingrown toe nail is toe nail excision done under local anaesthesia. I suggest you complete your ongoing antibiotic course for uneventful healing post I&D. Then you may consult a general surgeon for further management.
