How To Treat Intense Burning On Top Part Of The Shin And Knee?

Two weeks ago I fell straight onto my knee and upper shin. I never bruised, got swollen, or anything like that, it did hurt quite a bit initially, I couldn't walk in on it, but after about an hour it was fine. However, since then I can not feel when I touch that are, but when I kneel on that knee the top part of my shin stings with an intense burning for a while. Is it possible that the injury isn't something that won't heal on itself or that I could be further damaging the region by not seeing medical attention?
