How To Treat Itchy Rash On Upper Abdomen, Scalp And Neck?

I am trying to decide if i need to contact my dermatologist tomorrow. I have a rash on my upper abdomen a few inches below my breasts, mostly on the right side. It is very itchy. I also have itching on both sides of my neck and at the bottom of my scalp; however, i can t see any rash clearly on those parts of my body. I have not started any new meds recently. 1) do i need to go to the dermatologist; 2) what local tx can i take or do to make myself more comfortable. I have taken claritin for 2 days and put some benedryl gel on the rash. Thank you. Julie Abramson

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to an allergic reaction. I see that you have already taken Benadryl gel for local application. I suggest to continue using it. I also suggest using an antihistamine such as Cetirizine 10 mg daily. If the symptoms continue for a few days, I recommend to see a dermatologist for further evaluation.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
