How To Treat Lactose Intolerance In An Infant While Breastfeeding?

Hi Doctor, My son is 2 months old. He has limited tolerance to lactose for last 1 month. He recovers when Isomil is used along with breast milk in rotation. Is there an alternate to soya based formula. Can lactase supplement drops be used to restore 100% breast milk feeding. Is there any such product available in India. Thanks!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Apart from isomil which is a soy based formula, similac is available which can be used in lactose intolerant babies. Restoring exclusive breastfeeding by adding lactase supplementation is dependent on the response of the baby. In case of no symptoms or discomfort,it can be continued.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
