How To Treat Lower Abominal Discomfort After Using Tampon?

I left a tampon in for 4 days by mistake and had, until I removed it a foul smell (for nearly 2 days) and now have some discomfort across my lower stomach area. ( removed tampon this evening) will this go away in a couple of days or should I seek an appointment with my gp. Smell gone since. Thank you

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Retention of tampon in vagina can lead to infection.
Foul smell while removing tampon suggests that the tampon got infected.
Lower abdominal is most probably due to pelvic inflammatory disease (PID).
I suggest you to consult your gynecologist and get a vaginal swab for micro-biological examination.
In case any infectious agent is detected, appropriate anti-microbial will be prescribed and thus infection will be controlled.

Thanks and take care
