How To Treat Numbness On Face Caused After A Injury?

I fell down 7 stairs and landed on my face 3 months ago. The bruising is gone but I have numbness from my maxillary nerve. My muscles on my face move normally but the nerve feels like a live wire that runs down my cheek to the top half of my lip. Doctor said it will take time - maybe up to a year before I get feeling back. In the meantime, should I see another doctor for a second opinion. Could this be permanent.

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM,

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have problem of numbness on face caused after a injury . There can be many reasons for the symptoms you mention in query , But in your case it seems to me that there are two things that are responsible that is :-

- First the facial numbness is probably due to bell's palsy . Bell's palsy is a condition that causes temporary weakness or paralysis of the muscles in one side of the face.

- Secondly the numbness of extremities is probably due to facial nerve dysfunction due to injury .

I would suggest you to consult neurologist for proper examination . Doctor may order x-ray , CT scan , or examine physically along with nerve conduction test and check movement for your facial muscle . Doctor may prescribe muscle relaxant along with anti inflammatory and recommend physical therapy and proper rest . For now take proper rest , apply warm compresses and take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain . massage or light muscle exercise . Doctor may also recommend surgery for repair of nerve.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
