Hi,
Noted the history about a 57 year old having
numbness on one side of throat, on examination there is swelling on that side but no symptoms of pain or so.
The commonest causes are as follows:
Edema due to underlying infection that is sub-clinical.
Cancer as there are no other symptoms and you are old.
Hence I would advise you the following:
Consult an ENT Surgeon for proper clinical examination,
endoscopy and
biopsy if required.
CT scan of the affected area gives better diagnosis.
Further treatment will be as per the cause found.
If the cause if due to inflammation or infection then a proper course of an antibiotic, anti-inflammatory can help you the most although it take a lot of time.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, ENT and General Surgeon
