How To Treat Open Sore Between Vulva And Anus?

I have an open sore between my vulva and anus. I know that I do not have an STD as I ve not had any partners since 2004 and my last pap smear was in 2011 and it came out clean. The sore started out as a pimple like/size in that area and while I was taking a bath I picked at it opening it and I could feel liquid oozing out. I never looked at it at that time and it wasn t until I felt the area change in feeling when I touched it that I looked with a mirror and saw the area look raised with a tiny hole at the top like a volcano. I tried treating it with some over the counter creams such as resinol only to make it worse and it branched out into another volcano . I then panicked and started using rubbing alcohol on both sores with the first one eventually disappearing leaving a slight scar which took about two months to disappear, but the second on still remains and has become more like an open sore about 3mm in diameter. I can t seem to get rid of it with the alcohol and don t understand why the first on disappeared, but the second one hasn t. What should I do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since you have an open sore between your vulva and anus, you are suggested to take care of your personal hygiene. Take regular showers and clean the area affected with a small piece of cotton dipped in Savlon or Dettol. Sores in the genital area are commonly indicative of genital warts or herpes infection. you are suggested to get STD test and HSV tests done to stay on the safer side. If the tests are positive you will be treated with antibiotics and anti-virals. Neglect may cause worsening of the symptoms.

For relief, you can take Acetaminophen, one SOS when required to ease discomfort. Cool compress may be effective. Do not share your toiletries, do not douch or use perfumed products. Get clinically examined. If it is an abscess, it can be drained and dressing done. You can take a course of Augmentin for faster healing. Cut on carbohydrates and sugary food, they may delay healing.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
