How To Treat Pain And Mild Swelling Of Abdomen After Undergoing Appendectomy?
I had an appendectomy lastnight. When I woke up this morning I did not have significant swelling. I have been taking pain meds every 4 hours as instructed . I recently noticed my pain has increased quite a bit and happened to look at my belly to notice it is moderately swollen/distended . Is this a normal reaction?
Hi. Read and understood your history of appendectomy yesterday. In uncomplicated case of appendicitis, usually there is no swelling or pain, the patient can pass gases and feces the next day to reduce the bloating and the pain medicines are needed only when required- SOS in our language.
But in complicated cases, where there was pus formation or complications of appendicitis already present the post-operative course can be a bit stormy with pain and bloating. This may be the possibility as in your case.
Request the nurse to pass a glycerin suppository to facilitate the passage of gases and feces so that the bloating will be reduced.
Always take painkillers only if there is more pain.
Do not worry if you are in a Hospital, you will be taken care of nicely.
