How To Treat Pain In Hamstring And Glute Muscles In Leg Caused After An Injury?

Hi! So I was running today, and I tripped on the sidewalk, and took a bad fall. When inwent down, my right leg was extended forward, and I essentially went into a forward split (something which does not naturally occur with me). Upon immediately falling, the pain in my right hamstring and right glut muscle was instantaneous and very severe. I couldn t move my leg, bend it, etc. I was afraid I couldn t walk, and as Ientioned above, the pain was immense. However, I was able to get up a few minutes later, and slowly start walking. Now, about 5 hours later, I can stand and was gingerly, but when I bend over or way too fast or for too long the pain in my leg get uncomfortable and severe. As of now, there is no bruising. Will I bruise? What do you think I did to my leg?

Hi,

You may have strained or pulled your hamstring and/or gluteal muscles, or possibly even torn them. Bruising may or may not occur, as bruising can take some time to develop after an injury. To treat the pain and promote healing, it's important to rest the affected leg, apply ice to the area for 15-20 minutes at a time several times a day, and take OTC pain medication like Ibuprofen. Gentle stretching and light exercise may also be helpful once the pain begins to subside. However, if the pain persists or becomes more severe, it's important to see a doctor to rule out a more serious injury.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
