Hi,
Pain in the rib and hip radiating towards the leg following
gallbladder removal could be due to a few different causes. One possible cause could be related to the surgery itself. Sometimes, after gallbladder surgery, people can develop scar tissue or adhesions in the area which can cause pain. Another possibility is that the pain is related to a
nerve that was damaged during surgery.
Another potential cause of the pain could be unrelated to gallbladder surgery. It could be due to a musculoskeletal issue, such as a strain or
sprain in the muscles or joints in the area. It could also be related to a nerve issue, such as
sciatica, which can cause pain in the hip and radiate down the leg.
Treatment options for this type of pain will depend on the underlying cause. Your doctor may recommend over-the-counter pain relievers or prescription medications to manage the pain. They may also recommend
physical therapy or other treatments to address any musculoskeletal or nerve issues.
In some cases, further testing or imaging may be necessary to determine the cause of the pain. Your doctor may order tests such as X-rays, CT scans, or
MRI scans to get a better look at the area and determine the best course of treatment.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
