Yes, I have a daughter that has pmdd and is taking lexpro and Seroquel and it was giving her all kinds of side effects so I took her to a different doctor and told me to wing her off the drugs and she having a sorts of side effects going on is that normal or should I take her to the hospital. I am also giving her something to sleep and the new doctor has her on Prozac 10mg for the anxiety.
Lexapro and prozac are both seratonin reuptake inhibitors, acting to increase the lifespan and action of that neurotransmitter. Either one should help PMDD symptoms. Seaquel is also a medication that affects brain chemistry and used to treat psychiatric disorders. The frustration of psychiatric problems is that precise lab testing doesn't exist to guide therapy. It is not like measuring blood sugar to know how much insulin to give. The appropriate medication and dose is largely trial and error, guided by the patient response, both good and side effects. You and she need to find a doctor that you communicate well with, and realize it may take some time to find the right pharmacological approach. It is likely to be an ongoing issue and adjustments may be needed over time. I am sorry she has these difficulties, but I'm glad you are helping her. There are many helpful meds available, and new ones in development, so I hope she feels better soon.
