How To Treat Recurring Sore Throat, Ear Ache And Pain In Neck?

I ve had a sore throat, on and off, since November. It comes and goes, and is usually accompanied by an ear ache, and pain in the back of my neck. I ve been on antibiotics at least 4 times since November, and this keeps returning. I usually have a rash that develops when this occurs....usually on neck or chest. I also feel lethargic to the point of staying in bed all weekend. I teach elementary school, and I m in constant contact with various illnesses, mainly strep.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Surely being a Teacher for Elementary School gives contact with many with a tendency to have recurrent respiratory tract infections. Recurrent sore throat, starting with a rash on neck or chest indicates allergy as the primary cause instigating the problems and enhanced by other factors. This leads to further complications like sinusitis. Now this seems to be sinusitis giving additional problems like recurrent sore throat and ear aches due to infection travelling to the middle ears through Eustachian tubes.

All these leads myalgia and the commonest cause of neck and facial pains. Hence I would advise you the following:
- First of all, consult an ENT Surgeon for clinical evaluation, ENT Endoscopy
- CT scan of nose and sinuses
Relevant tests of blood and urine

All these will give a probable cause and complications caused. Proper management with antihistamine, anti-inflammatory and other medicines may help you to overcome the problems. Special management if CT scan shows any positive findings. Use mask whenever you are out of home.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
