Hello,

Your child most probably has a gut infection. The following are few causes of diarrhea and vomiting in children:
1) Bacterial infections
2) Viral and parasitis infections
3) Food allergy

The following are guidelines for treatment of vomiting and diarrhea in children:
1) The most important factor is maintaining hydration. For this give glucose and electrolyte mixed fluids in high quantity as and when the child can drink.
2) Please do not give fruit juices and soda as they make diarrhea worse
3) Many ORS fluids are available and few are available in popsicle form too
4) It's always better not to give any medicine to kids below 12 yrs of age
5) Maintaining hydration is the key but do not give much of plain water, electrolyte solutions are preferred.
Generally vomiting subsides in 1-2 days and diarrhea in 4-5 days. Its better to avoid medication. But as you have started powerful syrup, you may continue for 2 days. Ondem is the drug for vomiting but please avoid use of too much medication in children. Let their immune system take over and fight with the infection.

If the following symptoms appear, kindly consult a children specialist:
1) Worsening of diarrhea and vomiting
2) Loss of consciousness
3) Presence of blood in stool
4) Signs of severe dehydration like sunken eyeballs, loss of skin turgor
In my opinion, your son would recover without any medication just by supplementing electrolyte solutions.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
