How To Treat Severe Edema And Leaky Valves In Legs?

i've seen many doctor's, i finally found one that told me i have a severe case of edema and leaky valves in my legs. he told me to wrap my legs in guause and keep my legs elevated. is there any permanant solution? my legs hurt all the time and swell very badly. please tell me what i can do. i really can't work with my legs in this shape!
