How To Treat Severe Pain On Right Side Of Abdomen Caused Due To Abdomen Adhesions?

During a right kidney donor nephrectomy in 1994 the surgeon nicked my vena cava. The surgeon who did the transplant surgery told me that two surgeons were up to their elbows in my gut looking for the bleed. I was in intensive care for 2 weeks and a medical unit for 2 more. The scar goes almost 3/4 of the way around my abdomen. About a year after I had some issues with what my PC said were abdominal adhesions. For the last month there has been a painful catch in my right side (on the side seam, so to speak) between my lower rib and hip bone. The pain is intermittent, usually mild but twice has been severe enough I had to ask my husband to help me lie down. My prescription for Norco (lumbar spine issues) takes care of the pain. Is there something I can do short of surgery to fix: the problem?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I read carefully your query and understand your concern.

The abdominal adhesions don't cause symptoms or complications, they typically don't need treatment. If abdominal adhesions cause symptoms or complications, doctors can release the adhesions with laparoscopic or open surgery.
However, surgery to treat adhesions may cause new adhesions to form.
It should be evaluated by a surgeon.

Hope my answer was helpful.

If you have further queries feel free to contact me again.

Kind regards!
